WORKSHOPS

MINDFUL PHOTOGRAPHY

What is mindful photography?

In the early stages of photography, the formal process of picture taking required specialized and expensive equipment, detailed knowledge, technical skills and plenty of time to set up.

Fast forward - 2022, we have experienced innovation, from automation of camera functions, disposable cameras of many sizes, instant polaroid cameras, digital cameras, camera phones and now cameras are built in just about every electronic gadget you can think of - which has brought digital image capturing to the hands of many and “changed the game!”

Camera devices integrated in electronic devices offer a range of features and the ability to take more advanced and high-quality pictures and continue to evolve. There are many sources of training and and abundance of online advice to take your best shots.

However, for our purposes, the means to take a mindful photograph is within your reach and requires minimal technical understanding. A picture capturing a moment in time can be fun, uncomplicated and provides an opportunity to engage in the moment and feel more present with our surroundings.

To be mindful means to pay attention, be centered and connect to a moment. When we slow down and look through the camera lens we are practicing being in the present moment.
